Fairbanks, Alaska

Cabin in Bettles, AK

The moose-crossing is our little spot for letting people know about the place we live in all its various aspects.

Especially for our contiguous friends and family, so they can experience a bit of our life vicariously and understand something more about the environment, culture, and historical backdrop of which we're now a part.

Check back often for updates!  Now that we're here, we'll have lots more tidbits to share!

Keep on your toes for new additions to the link lists below, as well!

See you in the pictures.

Here are some links to webcams and picture portfolios, specifically of the Fairbanks area, so you can see where we're going and a very good bit of the reason we're going there!

  • UAF Photo Gallery.  Maintained by the University Relations department, this gallery is full of high-quality images, showing the beauty of the area and the full range of experiences at the school.
  •  Noyes Slough.  A great nature webcame near Fairbanks.  I haven't seen a lot of wildlife, but it's a pretty picture and gives a great view of the weather.
  •  Climate Cams. Beautifully sharp webcams maintained by the ACRC.  I'm especially fond of the Remote Weather Cam (first one on the drop-down menu) because it integrates weather data with the presentation.
  • Fairbanks, Daily News-Miner.  Nothing fantastic, but kind of a neat shot of Fairbanks from a  cam on the Daily News-Miner building.
  • Denali visibility.  Often not spectacular since the point is to gague visibility and air quality, but still a pretty fun camera located at the national park just a couple hours outside of town.
  • Fairbanks forest and Alaska range.  Cam from near the Fairbanks airport with a shot of the forest near Fairbanks and the Alaska range in the distance. Depending on visibility, you may be able to see several peaks.
  • Red Squirrel.  Webcam in Northpole, AK, just a little over 20 miles from Fairbanks.  If you're lucky, you might catch a red squirrel feeding.  Otherwise, you still get a neat picture of a Northpole backyard.

The Basics

Here are some links to pages just about Fairbanks and the area; they should be a great overview.

  •  Fairbanks @ ePudunk.  Lots of detailed information about various aspects of the town, from boring but informative stats about costs of living and demographics to the real interesting stuff (availability of coffee).
  • Fairbanks, Alaska Vistor Guide.  Lots of info and links on Fairbanks, nearby villages, and the area of Alaska in general.  The site is maintained by the Ranch Motel.
  • Explore Fairbanks. Thorough and detailed website put together by the Fairbanks Convention and Visitors' Bureau.  Includes info, FAQs, and more.
